North of the Riverfront Community Center, there's a sign for the Planters Hotel- a once famous hotel that stood on the site. The hotel is no longer there, but at one point was a stop on the Underground Railroad as escaped slaves viewed it as an easy stop in abolitionist Kansas, across the river from pro-slavery Missouri. Even Abraham Lincoln stayed the night there after his visit to Leavenworth in 1859. It's a quick, easy, and fun stop to make to brush up on some local history.
