Ahh Summer! That time of year when families take vacations. After 6 months of coaxing and 2 months of planning, we left Utah to visit the Pacific Northwest. We left after work on Thursday and drove as far as we could before pulling off the highway and finding a camping spot. We ended up north of Baker City, Oregon on a small dirt road for the night. The next morning we picked up camp early and continued on to Portland and the Oregon Coast. Before getting on the road, we stopped at a small marker along the way to read about and see the ruts from the Oregon Trail
The marker was small, but it was fun to read about and see the ruts left by the emigrants that passed this way over 150 years ago. It's pretty cool that the ruts are still there.
Hindsight is a funny thing. After we stopped at the sign, and looking at the direction that the tracks came from, I'm pretty sure we spent the night on some unmarked ruts of the old Oregon Trail.
