From the main trail up the hill, the cabin is well hidden, even though it's only a hundred yards or so removed from the trail. Unfortunately, the back wall of the cabin has collapsed, so the structural stability is questionable and it's not a place that I'd want to stay the night.

The Fernwood Cabin
East of Layton, there are at least 3 primitive cabins on the mountainside. I call this one the Fernwood Cabin, since it is east of the Fernwood Picnic Area. The cabin is pretty neat. I wonder at the effort someone took to build it.
Nearby is a spring.
