Gateway Natural Area

Monday was a holiday. We hadn't been hiking for a while and we hadn't been to the Gateway Natural Area up Poudre Canyon, so we headed off.

We took the Black Powder Trail up toward Seaman Reservoir. The trail follows the river up to the reservoir.

December, January, and February don't charge admission to the natural area, so it's a great time to get out and use it for free.

The reservoir was iced over. We could see where a few people and ice fishermen had been out on it. The ice was creaking and pinging, it sounded kindof like those audio clips you hear of whales. I like it when the ice sings!

I thought the old tunnel below the dam looked pretty cool, but the area was fenced off.
