Why to fish in the rain.

This evening while Ash was working, I finished what I needed to do and decided to try fishing. The river is a little high, the mosquitoes are out, and it was threatening to rain. Three strikes you're out? Nope! I just put on a hat, some old shoes, and a long sleeve shirt. The Poudre River was a bit high, but it was surprisingly clear.

On one of my first casts, a big 16 inch brown came up and hit my Rapala. WHOO-EEE! It didn't get hooked, and I couldn't coax him to hit again. Either way, just seeing him come up put a grin on my face. About 10 minutes later a fat 8 incher came just nailed my lure. I tossed him back. About then the threatening storm stopped threatening and started to downpour. I kept fishing.

I made my way upstream, and had a few small hits, but didn't catch anything. I kept working my way along the bank. Finally, I coaxed a hit. It wasn't sudden like the small fish was, it was more of a lurking WHUMP at the end of the cast. I only had 5 feet of line out, and it took off, just peeling line off my reel. This one was BIG! After a long fight I finally got the fish in, a fat 20 inch brown trout. The biggest of the last few years. It had been a while, too long of a while. Life is good!

  2. That is quite a catch! I see you had to include pictures to prove you weren't embellishing.
