The Zion Overlook Trail

One of the hikes we took on our trip was the Overlook Trail. It's along Highway 9 in Zion. Just past the east end of the Zion Tunnel is a parking lot. Park in the lot, cross the highway carefully, then follow the steps up the hill. The hike to the overlook is about a mile.
A few spots on the trail have railings, and at one spot the trail is actually a platform that goes around a corner. The end of the trail leads to a great view from the overlook. We asked a ranger what the vertical distance was and she estimated 1000 ft. It's definitely an impressive drop. The overlook is well fenced.
Along the trail it's possible to look down into the narrows of Pine Creek. Pine Creek is a technical canyoneering route requiring ropes, rappeling, and some swimming. It also requires a permit, which tend to be in high demand in warmer weather. One day I'd like to go through Pine Creek. Today was just dreaming about it though.
