The Natural Fort

Between Fort Collins and Cheyenne is a cool little roadside attraction called "The Natural Fort." It doesn't have any signs pointing to it, and doesn't even have it's own exit. Either way, we thought it was a great place for another adventure. After I got off work, we loaded up a picnic, and headed out to the fort.

From what we could gather, the natural fort was a rest stop for early settlers in the area, and more significantly the location of an indian battle in the 1830's at which mountainman James Beckwourth took part. In the battle, about 200 indians were killed. As we scrambled around, it was easy to see why people would want to take shelter in the maze of rocks.
