Sunken Gardens

We had a family reunion at Lava Hot Springs over the weekend of the 4th.  Besides sitting around the campfire telling stories, tubing down the river, and soaking in the hot springs, we took some time to wander around downtown Lava.  As we wandered around, we found a really cool city park called the Sunken Gardens.
The park is the remains of big mats of algae that formed along the Portneuf River back in the day. It's neat to see the big holes and tunnels in the rock, as well as smaller holes formed from calcium deposits formed around roots.
There were also lots of plants and flowers along the base of the cliffs and ledges.  I really enjoyed  the park and think that it's one that everyone can appreciate.  It's definitely a  fun place to visit when you need a break from all of the tubers.
