Geographic Center of the Nation

The geographic center of the nation is now in South Dakota. It used to be in Kansas, but when Alaska and Hawaii were admitted as states, the center shifted to western South Dakota. Belle Fourche is the closest town to the location, so they've decided to do something about it. Just outside the Belle Fourche visitor center and museum is a monument that proclaims them the Geographical Center of the United States. We stopped by for a visit.

The actual site is 20 miles north of town, but since we didn't have that kind of time (meaning, yeah it's cool, but it's just not THAT cool), a stop here was sufficient for us.
