Driving home, we stopped at the "Parcel Post Bank" in Vernal, Utah. The (now) Zions Bank Building was built in 1916, and has an interesting history. The bank wanted to build the building with bricks that weren't available in Vernal. Someone discovered that if they mailed them, it would cost half as much as other means of getting them out. Each brick was individually wrapped, and mailed out- filling a traincar. Because of the issues surrounding the shipment, the postal service changed their regulations.
It's a pretty cool bit of history and trivia. Who would have thought you could mail a bank building!
